Workstep
The Yorkcraft Factory is part of the City of York Council's Workstep Programme which exists to provide employment for people with disabilities.
Currently 30 individuals with a disability are employed in the factory. A further 19 work with a range of different employers in the public, private and voluntary sectors with support from the Programme.
For individuals with a disability, Workstep can:
- Help them to work effectively in a job
- Provide the support the individual and employer needs
- Develop and improve their skills and job prospects
- Provide a stepping stone into unsupported employment if appropriate.
Workstep helps employers to provide job opportunities for people with disabilities. In addition it can enable employers to retain the skills and expertise of existing employees - for example, those who have a disability or medical condition likely to deteriorate over time or those whose condition fluctuates, needing periodic support.
